earthquake

In 1994, a violent earthquake happened in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. It killed 72 people and injured over 9000. This 6.7 magnitude earthquake caused $25 billion worth of damage. California is situated on the North American and Pacific tectonic plates which are really active.

  1. The North America and Pacific Plate are sliding past one another. It is the San Andreas Fault. A good example of a Strike-Slip fault.
