This past winter, 8 snowmobilers in Fernie B.C went missing after a massive avalanche in the backcountry where they were snowmobiling buried them. Three men escaped and made it to safety while a second avalanche came down on their buried friends. Snow is often unstable in the back country of B.C, due to large amounts of snow and lack of preventative infrastructure. It's common for avalanches to happen in the winter.
