Torrential rains trigger a devastating landslide in Hofu, Japan



On July 22, 2009, torrential rain triggered floods and landslides in Hofu, Japan. There were ten people missing and six deaths due to this natural weathering disaster. More than 400 people were evacuated from their homes in Hofu, and cities surrounding Hofu. Rivers and canals flooded at nearly 100 locations, and at least 110 landslides were reported in Hofu. This landslide could not have been prevented due to the rainfall. Rain played a major role in this disaster, and because rain cannot be prevented, neither could this landslide. The city of Hofu, Japan experienced a devastating natural disaster on July 22, 2009 where many were injured, homes destroyed, and thousands were terrified for their lives.
