Hurricane Rita is considered to have been the fourth-most intense hurricane and the most extreme tropical cyclone to ever hit the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Rita was a category 5 hurricane that hit the coast of Texas on September 24, 2005. This hurricane killed seven people directly, but others lost their lives during evacuations, and the aftermath of the hurricane, the total death toll reached an astounding 120 people. The aftermath of the hurricane resulted in floods, wrecked houses and businesses, loss of family members, loss of property and loss of life.
