This is a picture of Sidney Spit in our own beautiful BC. Spits are points of sandy deposits built up into a landform that projects into a body of water. If a beach ends at a sharp angle, the swashing and backwashing motions of the waves and wind pushes the the sand along in a straight line in the water, creating a built up landform of sand. If the spit "grows" out to block off an entire bay, a lagoon is created. Sidney Spit is one of BC's biggest tourist attrations for summer travellers.
