Hurricane Iniki

Hurricane Iniki was the strongest hurricane to hit the Hawaiian Islands. It was a beastly category 4 hurricane, with wind speeds of 140 miles per hour!
'Twas formed on the september 5th, and wasn't through with it's inconsiderate path of destruction until September 13th of the same year.
The hurricane caused quite a hullaballoo, costing the people $1.8 billion in 1992 currency and $2.8 billion in 2009 currency. Remarkably, though the National Hurricane Centers failed to notify the public 24 hours in advance, only six deaths are directly attributed to Hurricane Iniki.
The grand majority of the damage from this storm was on Kaua'i, where 5000 homes were wiped out by the storm. After having gone there myself, it is readily apparent that Hurricane Iniki affected the population, since on the hurricane-prone side of the island stilted houses are incredibly common, and even some houses were more like tree houses, being stilted up to 30 feet in the air to avoid storm surges from hurricanes, along with Tsunamis, which are also a frequent problem for the area.
Hurricane Iniki, in addition to being the costliest hurricane to ever hit the Hawaiian Islands, was also one of only two category 4 Hurricanes that hit the United States that year.
Well well chaps, I do hope you enjoyed this week's blog! There will be numerous reiterations of it, I assure you that!
